    4X4 Playground

The former race track is now a playground for you and your vehicle. We will have the Playground open for participation and viewing Friday afternoon as well as all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Tech rules have been eased for those who wish to use ONLY the Playground. Open headers are allowed. And in the Troll Hole ONLY, you may use a truck with an altered body as long as it’s securely attached to the frame (See Tech Guidelines, Exceptions).

The Troll Hole (our constructed mud pit) is at the south end of the Playground. It is at least three times the size of the old Mud Duck and has three tiers to accept varying sizes of vehicles. A tractor (compliments of Greene Implement) is available to pull you out.

A side-by-side mud-drag area extends along the east side of the Playground, toward the mud pit.

The old CORR tech inspection concrete slab has been turned into a burnout pad. Chain your vehicle to the convenient girder and smoke ‘em. Bring along some extra sets and try some four-wheel burns.

There are two teeter-totters for you to try to balance your vehicle on. One is a traditional teeter-totter that you will balance front-to-rear. And the other is a “360” teeter-totter with a single center balance point that requires you to find the exact center of your vehicle.

A dead-pull area exists where you can see how many concrete barriers you can drag.

A boulder pile is available to climb on.

There is an uphill car crush on the smaller left-hand hill.

The clay on the larger right-hand hill is "moistened" to create a slick hill climb.

This play area is NOT for prizes, points, or trophies. It’s bragging rights only.

We expect the toys within the bowl area to increase and evolve over time. Spectator Hill will remain and be a pure observation point where you can view everything happening in the 4X4 play area. You can park in the old Pro Pit area directly behind the Hill. There is a small playground constructed atop the Hill for the kids to use. It is a fairly large sandbox with some toys available.

    Campgrounds

As in the past, camping is included with your weekend pass. Camping is primitive. There is no electricity, water, or sewer available on your site. In fact, there are no sites. This is a huge group campsite. Real estate is first-come-first-serve. Click Campground for map. To conserve space, we ask that you park your trailers in our trailer parking area. It is secure and you will be given Troll Dollars if you participate. Troll Dollars may be redeemed for food or merchandise in the Campground area. Because of its location, the trailer parking area CANNOT open Friday morning until the Chalet area has emptied enough to get trailers in. Please be patient.

The southern portion of Yellow campground will be NOT be available for use this year. See the Rock Crawl Area described below.

Toilets are the portable type and are scattered throughout the campgrounds. They should be designated for male or female use (because guys are perceived to have problems with aim, putting the seat up/down, etc). We like to think that we have supplied an adequate number and we require our supplier to be onsite to maintain cleanliness. Our Porta-Pot supplier will pump your motorhome tank for a fee. See your grab bag materials for further details.

Drinking water is available from a bulk tank parked near Campground Entrance. Free firewood (if available) is in this same area.

Showers with hot water are available again this year.

    Rock Crawl Area

Our Rock Crawl Area will be open Friday afternoon, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday for participation and viewing. It is located at the South end of the campgrounds area in an old quarry area.

The Crawl Area is the home of our Yellow Trail. We suggest that your vehicle be equipped with at least 33" tires and a locking differential. Unlike our other trails, there are NO bypasses yet on this trail. The trail will begin in the staging area and loop back to the staging area. No walk-in spectators are allowed on the trail.

Should you decide to participate in the Rock Climb area, SOME climbs may require that you wear a helmet and your vehicle MUST have a full roll-cage. We will allow one passenger (also helmeted) on these high risk climbs, but we reserve the right to change this allowance if we deem it unsafe. There WILL be roll-overs on some of these extreme climbs. Spectators will be allowed within 100 feet of the climb area. There is no parking space available nearby, so spectators will need to walk over from their campsite.

    Tow Trucks

It’s inevitable that a vehicle will breakdown or become horribly stuck. If it’s broken, we ask that you do everything possible to move the vehicle to a safe position off of the trail or off the obstacle to work on it. If stuck, rely on a fellow trail rider to strap or winch you out. We would like to keep traffic moving on the core trails and people playing on the obstacles.

Five of our members have built 4WD tow trucks with booms. They can extract you from whatever your predicament may be. We will do our best to get your truck to your campsite as soon as possible, but be aware that your vehicle may not get moved until the day is over.

    Emergencies

We have FM radios and our area chairpersons are in constant contact with their staff as well as being in contact with other areas. We have an onsite ambulance/paramedic crew also in radio contact. They are parked at Campground gate. If you have a medical emergency, contact any staff member, we’ll get the paramedics to you. Conversely, if someone needs to contact you in an emergency situation, they can call the Go-4 hotline and we’ll find you (That’s why we need to know what campground you’re in and what your license plate is. Or what your trailride time is and what trail you may be on. We get that from your registration materials.).

We are mostly outside the city limits of Dresser and thus we fall into the jurisdiction of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. They do stop by from time to time. top of page
